Rutland is a county of mainland England, traditionally called the smallest English county bounded on the west and north by Leicestershire, northeast by Lincolnshire, and southeast by Peterborough and Northamptonshire. The only towns in Rutland are Oakham, the county town, and ppingham. Rutland Water Reservoir is the Europe’s largest man-made lake voted as Rutland's favorite tourist attraction; started construction in 1971, completed in 1975.It is popular for fishing, walking, cycling, sailing and other recreational activities also known as Empingham Reservoir. Rutland's older cottages are built from limestone or ironstone and many have roofs of Collyweston slate or thatch.
