Fleetwood is a town within the Wyre district of Lancashire, England. The town itself is on a peninsula and bounded to the west by the Irish Sea, to the north by Morecambe Bay, and to the east by the River Wyre. By the 1920s, the fishing industry was at its height was a prominent deep-sea fishing port employing over 9,000 people has undergone economic difficulties since the 1970s. Still it remains a seaside resort, serving as a quiet contrast to nearby Blackpool. The town's most prominent feature is The Mount - a seven-acre park facing the sea-front and Fleetwood Pier is one of the shortest piers in the country. |
